In the 1880's Ridgway was a link for the railroad route heading to Durango. In the 1970s, the Western film True Grit was filmed in this prime location. Now, Ridgway is a gateway to the stunning San Juan Mountains and the views from here are like none other. Recreation activities abound, including the beautiful Ridgway State Park, just four miles North of town. Camping, boating, hiking, fishing and more are what makes this State Park popular.
